IMG_1689Happy Thursday Downtown School Families!

That’s right… Happy Thursday as there is no school tomorrow, October 23rd due to district professional development. All teachers have the opportunity to self-select professional development that meets their needs and to attend sessions to help them grow as learners. Enjoy an extra day with your children.

When you completed the Online Registration you were asked about being a part of our school directory. We have been advised by our district office that for the safety of our students the following information printed in our directory will include student name, classroom teacher, parent(s) name, and parent email. The physical address will not be a part of the printed copy. If you would like to reconsider your child’s participation in the school directory, please call Deb at 242-8422 or email her at deborah.vanwaardhuizen@dmschools.org by November 1.

Your child was given a flyer about Mad Science, a hands-on after school activity at DTS. This activity has been approved by our district’s community education department. Registration is online and the class takes place from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on November 10, 17, and December 1.

We will be taking an All School Picture on October 28. If your child does not have a blue DTS t-shirt, have them wear any blue t-shirt.

A Note from the Nurse, Beth Angier, RN:

• A reminder to parents of kindergarten students. The Iowa law requires that students receive immunizations and dental screenings when entering the school system. Iowa state also audits these screenings in October. If your student is in need of either a (K)dental screening or continued immunizations will you address this issue as soon as possible. I realize it takes time to schedule appointments and sometimes there are conflicts. If your student is in need and you are unable to schedule, please advise the nurse. Compliance is very important to the DTS.

• October is a month for great outdoor activities and for some seasonal allergies. I am happy to announce that the illness rate at the DTS has been minimal this month and I have not had to report any contagious disease to the Polk County Health Department.

• Should you have questions please feel free to stop in my office or phone 242-4820
