Every year the Downtown School celebrates the importance of books and our children’s favorite books with Book Character Day. It’s a great opportunity for our students to translate their best-loved books into real-life by dressing up as a character from literature.

This year, Book Character Day will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd. Our day will begin with a student planned all school event at 8:30 in the Central Campus Auditorium. This event will include book advertisements, skits, and a costume character parade. In addition, the PTA will sponsor a photo booth again this year.

It’s not too early to start thinking about a costume for your children. Instead of using a favorite Halloween costume, get your kids excited about creating a new and unique character. Here are some ideas:

    • Coordinate with a friend to portray several characters from a book.
    • Share costume ideas and props with friends.
    • Check out Pinterest for Book Character Day inspiration.
    • Choose your favorite old-school book character to dress up.

Teachers will be spending some time talking about books, characters, and costumes in their classes. In addition, some of our 9/10 year-old students will be creating a “tic tac toe” board of fun ideas for the teachers to use during National Children’s Book Week (May 1-5).
