PTA Parent Volunteers
We can’t do it without you! We want our awesome teachers and staff to be able to stay focused on what they do best: Help our kids learn and grow! So… we need parents to pitch in and tackle the other stuff. Put your time and talents to good use, plus enjoy staying involved in your child’s education. Volunteering is a great way to connect with DTS teachers, staff and families. Here are some options:
Be a classroom Parent Volunteer – Each class has 1-2 parents who help coordinate/communicate special events and classroom needs. The role varies by teacher, but generally Parent Volunteers coordinate teacher birthday celebrations and teacher appreciation events, send emails about classroom needs or PTA events, plus anything else that may be needed.
Help in the classroom or on field trips:
- Please register to volunteer with Des Moines Public Schools
- Coordinate with your classroom’s Parent Volunteer and/or the teacher
Book fair setup/tear-down, cashiers – Book sales are a win-win: reading encouragement for kids and a great source of income for the school. It’s a lot of work though! We need parents to help set up and tear down the books and displays, as well as take shifts as cashiers. Watch for more Book Fair information via email and backpack notes.
Teacher Appreciation Week – This annual nationwide celebration happens in May and it’s a BIG deal. What a great opportunity to say “thank you” to our wonderful teachers! We need lots of help in the weeks prior to make each Teacher Appreciation week extra special: gathering donations, purchasing and/or making gifts, bringing food, etc. Watch for more information via email and backpack notes.
Reach out to donors, in your network or via local businesses – Donors are an essential part of our fundraising efforts and it’s a lot of work to find great donors, build relationships and solicit donations. Do you know someone who might donate goods or services that could help our school, be sold at our bi-annual auction or be used as prizes at events throughout the year? There’s always opportunity here, but watch for specific needs via email.
Your skills/network – Your own time and talents could be put to great use too! Let us know if you or someone you know is willing to provide:
- Food/catering
- Photography/videography
- Entertainment/arts – music, artwork, acting, dancing, emceeing, etc.
- Communications – screen printing, poster/flyer design, web design, etc.
