Combat Hunger

The students at the Downtown School are learning to be philanthropic!  We recently participated in two wonderful programs:  Combat Hunger and Toiletries for the Troops.  For Combat Hunger, a few students “took charge” and organized a school wide canned and boxed food drive.  Our school collected 1,351 food items to donate to the needy people of Iowa!

Along with the food drive, these same students also helped organize a collection of toiletries for our troops overseas.  We collected deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, nail clippers, shaving cream, etc.  To top it off, we created holiday cards to send to the troops as well!  We can only imagine they miss home and are hoping one of our cards will brighten their holiday spirits!  Tis the season to be giving and the students at the Downtown School are learning firsthand!
