Mark your calendars for the annual Back to School Night at Union Park, Thursday, Sept. 24, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is an informal get-together for students and families. Some families pack a picnic, while others grab drive through. The Heritage Carousel is open for free rides, and the rocket slide is a favorite! This event is sponsored by the Downtown School PTA. Your Downtown School PTA is pleased to bring you many fun activities throughout the year. Did you miss your chance to sign up at registration? It’s easy to join! Just send us an email at downtownschoolpta@gmail.com and drop off your check for $10 in the mailbox just inside the school entrance. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, students can bring in a gently used, age appropriate book from home and swap it for a “new to them” book. Book swap will be Tuesday mornings from 7:50-8:15 in the lobby space between the library and the culminating event room. Be sure to check in your classroom first, then come to book swap!

While the vast majority of DMPS students head back to class later this month, August 12 marked the first day of the 2015-16 school year for the Downtown School.
