Downtown School students collected more than 1,500 items for the DMARC food pantries before Winter break. For exceeding their goal, and to celebrate the end of the calendar year, they were treated to a dance party in the gym! Click on the headline to see more fun photos.

Winter break is approaching quickly. Don’t forget to bring in items for the food bank this week. Also, our last All School Sing of the year is on Friday, Dec. 16 at 8:30 a.m. in the Central Campus auditorium. Our last day of school before break is Dec. 16, and we’ll see you back here on Tuesday, Jan. 3! We wish you the happiest of holidays!

Students in Stephanie Hubka and Abby Boruff’s class at Downtown School made cards to thank SRO Vinnie Quang for his service. After Quang spoke to the students briefly, the students handed him their cards and joined in for a group hug. Hundreds of parents and students enjoyed an evening at Union Park in Des Moines at the annual Downtown School picnic. Carousel rides were free, courtesy of the DTS PTA. Thank you to our PTA volunteers and everyone’s participation in PTA fundraisers — you help make events like this possible!

With the arrival of Fall comes our first set of student-led conferences! Please remember to bring your student along to their conference time on Oct. 12 or 13. Your teacher should be reaching out soon, if they haven’t already. We hope everyone had a terrific first day at school! Remember, the school doors open at 7:50 a.m., school begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m., with the exception of Wednesday. Wednesday is an early out day so teachers can focus on professional development. On Wednesdays, DTS dismisses at 1:30 p.m. Here’s to a fantastic year!
