Students Get Jobs, Create Newspaper

Read all about it! The students in Mrs. Kate Badger and Mrs. Jennifer Mann’s classes wrapped up their study of colonial times and the U.S. government by creating a newspaper: The Downtown Daily. In order to build the newspaper students dissected a real newspaper, applied for positions on the news staff, and acted as reporters, junior editors, layout specialists, advertisers, and more.

DMPS Offers Free Summer Meal Program

DMPS will again offer breakfast and lunch over the summer months to children 18 and younger. The number of sites has grown, and so have the number of meals served. Last summer, DMPS staff fed children 28,722 breakfasts and 79,698 lunches. DMPS has sponsored a summer meal program for more than 30 years. Maps Focus History Lesson for Students

Stephanie Flickinger to Lead Downtown School

DMPS is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie Flickinger as the new principal at The Downtown School, starting July 1. She is currently principal of Reede Gray Elementary School in the Redwood Area School District in Minnesota, and will replace John Johnson who is retiring at the end of the school year. Downtown School Students Save 322 Lives

If it’s a numbers game, the 268 students at the Downtown School win, and so does the American Heart Association. Staff placed hearts on 322 seats in the Central Campus auditorium so students could see how many lives they will save with the $16,200 in donations they collected.
